Mangalore, Aug 28: As a precautionary measure following the twin bomb blasts, at Lumbini Park, in Hyderabad, the Karnataka police have stepped up its vigil on the state's border with the neighbouring state Andhra Pradesh. Security has been beefed up and extra vigil has been maintained across the state, especially at public places and at vital installations.

On the advise of the union home ministry and the intelligence agencies, top police brass have sendt instructions to all departments concerned to keep a close watch on people visiting places of worship, tourist spots and crowded areas in Bangalore, Mysore, Mangalore, Belgaum, Dharmasthala, Sringeri, Kukke Subrahmanya, Kollur, Kateel, Udupi, Gokarna, ISKCON temple and Chamundeshwari temple.

Thorough security checks are being carried out on passengers both coming in and going out of bus stands and airports. Bomb disposal cells, bomb detection squads and police dog squads have been pressed into service and baggages of all commuters are also being thoroughly inspected.

Further instructions have been sent to officials to step up security at important reservoirs including Krishnarajasagar, Kabini, Almatii as well as major monuments and heritage structures including the Mysore Palace.

All round intense surveillance under the personal supervision of district police superintendents has been mounted in sensitive areas around Bangalore, Hubli, Mangalore, Udupi, Chikmagalur, Mysore and other places. Vigil has been intensified at pilgrim centres, tourist destinations and places with dense population.

Karnataka director general of police K R Srinivasan briefed that although no official communication was forthcoming from the Andhra Pradesh police over the Lumbini Park blasts, inspite of this security measures have been initiated all over the State. Accordingly hotels and lodges in the city have been brought under tighter vigil and an additional fresh round of checking of their premises has been ordered.

The police commissioner has been instructed to carry out the order, added the DG. In the mean time the chief minster H D Kumaraswamy has condemned the blasts and expressed grief over loss of innocent lives.
