Mangalore, Aug 21: The 63rd birth anniversary of the former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi was celebrated in different parts of the city by congress and its youth wing here, on Monday August 20.

The Mangalore north zone congress unit members visited Abhaya Ashram of Kodialbail, met the inmates there and distributed fruits and sweets to them. On this occasion a German national serving in the Abhaya Ashram, speaking glowingly about Rajiv Gandhi said that he was a well known figure in Germany and was much admired for his qualities Germany too.

In another programme at Adyar, on the premises of Sahyadri Educational Institute 64 sandalwood saplings were planted by the congress workers. Former MP Vinayakumar Sorake launched the planting programme.

Earlier in the day the Congressmen donated blood at Belthangady, youth congress leader Jagannath Shetty Bondala, block congress president Harish Kumar, MLA U T Khadar, and party spokesperson M G Hegde too participated in the blood donation programme at Belthangady.

MLA U T Khadar led the youth congress and visited Cheshire Home at Kankanady and distributed fruits, sweets and cloths. One of the inmates, a 102 years old person too was felicitated on the occasion. Visiting the house of Gopal Saphalya the Pane Mangalore Block congress presented house hold items and food grains for the poor family.
