Mangalore, Aug 21: The students of Srinivas College of Hotel Management in Association with Vijayalakshmi Institute of Hospitality Sciences will be organizing an ‘Onam Feast’ as part of their Onam celebrations on August 23 at Hotel Srinivas in the city.

Addressing mediapersons here on Monday, the principal-in-charge of Srinivas College of Hotel Management Prof Vinayaraj M informed that the programme aims at providing the students an exposure to not only the traditional cuisines, but also the culture of Kerala, where the festival is traditionally celebrated.

Apart from the feast, the programme will include a ‘Pookkala matsaram’ (flower carpet designing) open for the guests and a variety of cultural programmes like Thiruvathirakkali, Pulikali, Kolkali, a fashion show of traditional Kerala dress, skits, mimeshows and even an on-stage ‘Vallam Kali’ (boat race). Students’ Council President Shervegar Vikas Ravindra said that the students of the college are from different parts of India and hence it is important to share the culture and festivals of different states.

The college has been conducting Onam Feast for the past two years in this regard, while other programmes like Dandiya Nights have been organised every year. The students themselves are organising every aspect of the programme including reception, service, production and purchase, he said and added that there will be prices for even the best dressing.

Principal of Vijayalakshmi Institute Prof Anil Kumar, Programme co-ordinator Prof Padmanabha, Feast in-charge Prof Vijay Kumar Pai, Student Event Manager Chotai Yash Mahendra and Cultural secretary Ashwin Sheka were present.
