Mangalore, Aug 15: The great event of 60th anniversary of Independence was celebrated in Fr Muller Medical College Hospital here on Wednesday with great pride at the entrance of the hospital. Flag was hoisted and gratitude was paid to the nation by singing National anthem.

Fr Pairick Rodrigues, director of the Fr Muller Institution welcomed the gathering.

The chief guest M P Noronha, one of the leading advocates of Mangalore in his speech mentioned the significance of the tri-colour. He said the 3 colors signify the 3 major religions of the country. The Saffron signifies the Hindus, the white the Christians and the Green the Muslims. He emphasized that Hindus, must go to the temple, Christians to the church and Muslims to the mosque. But when they come out all must stand united as the Indian tri-colour.

Col Dr Rodrigues was the commanding officer. The celebration also showed students of MBBS and para-medics singing patriotic songs such as Vishwa Vinutanna Vidya Chetana, Sare Jahan Se Accha, Chodo kal ki baatein etc.

On this occasion prizes were distribute to the students who participated in the flower carpet and collage competitions which was held on Wednesday August 14 evening.

The celebration was concluded by the vote of thanks proposed by Dr Sanjeev Rai, dean of FMMC.
