Mangalore, Aug 13: The sale of Indian Made Liquor (IML) has doubled after the ban on arrack in the state, sources here informed.

A total of 1,38,0000 cases of IML were sold in the month of June. Moreover, this number has increased by 2,50,8708 cases in the month of July. This clearly indicates that arrack drinkers are now shifting towards IML.

On the other hand, cheap rated whisky has been introduced in the wine shops. This whisky has been sold in the shops to a larger extent, an excise officer informed. As per statistics more than 100% increase in the sale of IML has been found in 10 districts, in the state. In Udupi too 100% increase has been recorded in the sale of IML.

In view of this heavy demand, some ingenious liquor producing companies have started selling the liquor in tetra packs instead of bottles.

The state government on the other hand has plans to raise income from excise field to the tune of Rs 3300 crore, in the financial year of 2007-08. Recent statistics indicate there is high possibility of raising the said income in this financial year.

Hence while on the one hand arrack lovers are turning their attention towards IML, on the other hand government is successfully raising its deficit income through maximizing sale of IML.
