Mangalore, Aug 5:  Legal charges were pressed by the district labour officer against a young couple namely Basheer and Rehmat Basheer, who had employed a child as labourer in their house recently.

Since under the Child Labourers Act 1986, it is an offence to employ minors, legal proceedings will be carried out against the alleged culprits in the court of law.

This incident took place recently, when acting on a tip-off the labour department raided an apartment in Nalpad Kunil Complex and rescued 14-year-old girl Misha from the home of the Basheers.

Misha was then handed over to her mother Reshma from Badravathi, after she furnished proof that Misha was indeed her daughter. The Labour department also obtained an undertaking from Reshma that she would be enrolling her daughter in school.

Further according to the labour officials they have even written to Bhadravati Block Education Officer (BEO) requesting for a follow-up report on the girl.

Once the rehabilitation process had been completed the labour department concentrated on the prosecution procedures and thereby issued a notice to the couple. Based on their response, a charge-sheet was submitted in the second JMFC court recently.
