Mangalore, Jul 24: A short-term course on Distributed Computing and Software Verification (DISCOVER'07) was inaugurated at National Institute of Technogoly at Suratkal here on Monday July 23.

The inaugural function was presided by director of the Institution Dr  Sandeep Sancheti. It was inaugurated by Dr Manish Gupta, CTO, IBM India Systems and Technology Laboratory, Bangalore.

In his inaugural address Dr Manish Gupta explained the importance of Distributed Computing and Software Verification to the Indian context and work being carried out at IBM. He said that India is no longer a simple IT service-provider but also a major contributor in R & D and innovative work.

K Vinaya Kumar, HOD, department of Computer Engineering welcomed the gathering. Annappa, coordinator of DISCOVER'07 gave the details of 5 days programme from July 23 to 27. Several eminent speakers from the leading institutions and industry are delivering high-end research topics.

Dr K C Shet introduced the chief guest Dr Manish Gupta to the gathering. Dr S G Mayya, Dean (Planning), highlighted the technical education quality improvement programme (TEQIP) which funded the workshop. During the presidential address Dr Sancheti highlighted the importance of interaction with other engineering colleges and industry in the context of IT revolution.

Dr K Chandrasekaran proposed vote of thanks. Dr Manish Gupta also delivered key note address on "Parallel Computing". This short term course has received overwhelming response from various Engineering colleges in India with 63 participants attending DISCOVERS'07.

About DISCOVER'07

Distributed Computing and Software Verification has been one of the research areas in the computer industry. Distributed computing enables to build more reliable and fault-tolerant applications using software agents that can be distributed on a network of computers. Software verification is a broad and complex discipline of Software Engineering whose goal is to assure that the software fully satisfies all the expected requirements. The objective of this short term course, offered by IARCS, is to provide strong foundations in the principles of Distributed Computing and Software Verification.
