Udupi, Jul 23: At last the district administration has begun the process of fining the ore-laden trucks that violate the stipulated rule while moving on National Highway (NH) 17 during the day.

The order was issued by the deputy commissioner of Udupi, barring the manganese ore-laden trucks during the day.  They were directed to proceed on NH 17 between 9 pm to 5am, with a view to check on the damage to the highways and bridges besides in consideration of inconvenience to other road users.

“Ore-laden trucks were found to be moving on NH 17 during the day, in scant regard for the order.  Accordingly, 23 trucks were seized and fined, while RTO personnel and police were directed to take action against such trucks and the process is under progress,” said deputy commissioner V Ponnuraj.

All the trucks were subjected to weigh the load at the Ambalapady private weigh-bridge, especially the ore- laden trucks.

Police personnel have identified the ore-laden trucks dumping excess load beside the deserted road before approaching the weigh-bridge that seemed to been loaded once again after they return from the weigh-bridge, thereby hoodwinking the police.

I congratulate the police for taking action against ore laden trucks who were breaking the law. Hope this trend will continue and culprits will be punished I am regular reader of Daijiworld. I hail from Mangalore but residing in Aizawl Mizoram for the past 32 years.

Recently some miscreants attacked two mizo youth near Assam border and killed one and injured another seriously. Those attacked them are from Assam. As a result all the non-mizos irrespective of their place of origin are not allowed to get out of the house from 19th of July till 25th of July.

We are practically under house arrest. The administration seems to be doing nothing about it. The rest of India does not know the difficulty and plight of non-mizos in mizoram. There is no media of national level present here. Hope you will publish this. Roman Mascarenhas
