Mangalore, Jul 23: With the recent Naxal encounter at Menasinahadya in Chikmagalur district in the backdrop, Ullal MLA U T Khader has visited the Naxal-affected areas and made a list of lapses which was presented to deputy CM, Yediyurappa.

• There are rumours that the locals are supporting Naxal activities.  A few have a soft corner for the Naxals while a few others are supporting them out of fear.

• The local farmers were not issued of title deeds by the government.  They have been struggling to get their title deeds for the past many years.  There is likelihood of these farmers' getting involved in Naxal movement.

• When the forest department oppressed them with false cases, the local MLA and other people’s representatives have not bothered to listen to their problems.  Moreover the local youth were subjected to electric shock by the forest department personnel.  They have lost hope in government as their complaints to CM related to their injustice were not honoured.

• All the delegations that visited their locality have been reporting what is contrary to reality.  Nothing would be achieved by providing mere training in driving, tailoring and the like.

• Policemen are known to view the locals always with suspicion. They have expressed their resentment over being branded as Naxals.

• The Forest Act passed by union government during 2005 has to be implemented.  These would benefit the forest dwellers.

• The government announced a compensation of Rs.4 lac to the family of Sheshayya Gowda who was killed by Naxals in the past, while it has actually paid Rs.2 lac only.  Hence, the rest of Rs.2 lacs should be provided at the earliest.
