Mangalore, Jul 22: “Human Resource Development (HRD) has greater significance in the modern scenario, due to the increase in capital investment and employment opportunities,” said Central Administrative Commission chairman M Veerappa Moily, here on Saturday July 21.

He was speaking at the foundation laying ceremony of the business management block at University College, Hampanakatta. He said that there was an inevitability of increasing our human resources, in parallel to the investment ratio when the region would witness an investment of Rs 5, 00,000 crore in next five years.

Moily, an alumnus of the University College, said that the potential of HR in the region should be checked while the quality of the education should be geared up; as it’s pursued in foreign countries. 

P Dayanand Pai, another alumnus of the College and Bangalore-based entrepreneur, appealed for granting autonomous status to the University College whereby the college could achieve national recognition for its quality and proficiency. He also said that opportunities should be created to improve contacts among the alumni while the alumni contribute for the development of their alma mater.

University VC Prof K M Kaveriappa while delivering the introductory speech said that there are plans to begin PG and UGC courses in business management at the proposed block in University College.  Moreover there are plans to commence evening classes too.

MLA N Yogish Bhat inaugurated the office of Alumni. 

Entrepreneur Dayanand Pai announced that he would hand over a cheque of Rs 5 lac towards the construction of block. On the other hand, Yogish Bhat announced Rs 5 lac from the MLA’s fund and another entrepreneur Darbeguttu Krishananda Chowta handed over the cheque of Rs 1 lac.

Principal Govind Naik, treasurer Ramesh Kumar and University registrar Dr K Sundar Naik were present.
