Mangalore Student Poovamma Finishes 7th in 400m at World Finals

Ostrava, Czech Republic, Jul 14: India's M R Poovamma (17) finished seventh in the girls' 400 metres finals at the World Youth Athletics Championship at Ostrava, Czech Republic, according to information received here.

Poovamma, running in lane No. 8, clocked 55.49 seconds while favourite Yuliya Baraley of Ukraine won the race with 53.57 seconds, according to the Athletics Federation of India.

Poovamma, a student of St Mary's College in Mangalore, was the first Indian athlete to enter the finals of the championship.
