Mangalore: Suspect Vehicle Leads to Vehicle Check at Netravati Bridge

Mangalore, Jul 11: Police carried out heavy checking near Netravati bridge in Ullal on Wednesday July 11 night.

But, upon initial enquiries, the police did not disclose the reason for the check on vehicles all of a sudden. On the other hand, there are rumors about the entry of Naxalites into the district. Hence, the police are said to have carried heavy check on the highway. DYSP B P Heraje and circle inspector Chandrashekhar were on the spot and supervising  the checking.

A mini lorry bearing register number KA 30 3518 had crossed the bridge without caring the for police signals. Hence it was suspected to be carrying some contraband. Two police vehicles are said to have given it a chase. The vehicle then crossed over to Kerala.

Reports also said that the driver  and others in the vehicles kept throwing wooden pieces in create obstacles for the chasing vehicles. The police vehicles are said to have  chased the suspect vehicle up to Manjeshwar. Then on, it could not be traced.

Higher police authorities have expressed helplessnenss in catching fleeing culprits in view of the inadequacy of equipment and lack of advanced versions of vehicles. The DySP, circle inspector and 4 sub inspectors along with many police constables were on the spot. Threee sub inspectors along with constables chased the lorry. Still they were not able to intercept the lorry.

Meanwhile, the police conducted random breathalyser tests on some vehicle drivers and booked cases against those who were found to be under the influence of alcohol and also those who did not possess driving licences.

    Its really a shame on the concerned department that was not able to get in touch with the vehicle (that too national Hihg way) which was the cause of suspecion on others. May be the vehicle was carrying some contraband items. Its really looks like a ploy....
