Mangalore, Jul 6: The cardiac surgeons of Fr Muller Medical College, here performed a very rare cardiac surgery, in order to save the life of Mohammad Razak, a two-and-a half-year-old boy from Kasargod.

Mohd Razak, son of Faizal and Fathima, was brought to the hospital in a state of unconsciousness. He was in a very critical condition, according to a press release.

When investigation was done it showed that the heart beat of the child had reached to a critical level and owing to that the circulation of blood both to the body as well as brain had been almost stopped.

A team of doctors performed an emergency surgery by making a hole in the chest of the child and placing a pacemaker lead through it and implanting it in the abdomen successfully, which enabled normal heart beat and blood circulation was regularized.

The dean of the Medical College Dr B Sanjeev Rai stated that the entire surgery was performed within one and a half hours, and the surgery saved the life of the child.

The patient has responded to the surgery and treatment and is totally out of danger, the release said.

The director of the institution, Fr Baptist Menezes, has ignored all the hospitalization expenses of the patient as a goodwill gesture as the patient belongs to a poor family, the press release added.
