London, Jul 4: The former West Indies pacer Michael Holding has lashed out at the West Indies Cricket Board over its’ failure to produce top quality cricketers in recent years.

“I don’t think the West Indies Cricket Board over the last donkey years has tried to put anything in place to make sure that the infrastructure for the kids is there,” Michael was quoted as saying by ‘BBC’.

“And I think it’s time that someone woke up at that level and realise what they have got to do,” he added.

Apart from a disastrous World Cup 2007, the West indies team has lost the recent series 3-0 against England and are currently ranked eighth in team ratings.

West Indies batting legend Brian Lara also admitted recently that the West indies cricket is in a bad shape and he is willing to take an administrative role to help rebuild cricket at the grassroots level.

Talking about the administration of cricket by the national board, Michael said, “I think many years ago they just sat down and cricketer[s] just kept on coming through and they thought they were doing the job. They weren’t doing anything. It was just a natural thing that was happening within West Indies cricket.

“And now that they actually have to try and do something, they haven’t got a clue what to do.”
