Mangalore, Jul 3: Counselling for All India Engineering Entrance Examinations (AIEEE ) on-campus online counselling and admission for B. Tech programmes at NITK will continue on Tuesday at the institute. The session will fill Karnataka quota seats in the remaining 19 National Institutes of Technology in India along with all India seats in other deemed universities.

According to the director of NITK, Sandeep Sancheti, AIEEE counselling was a single point on-line process, which facilitated students from a particular State, to seek admission in 40 institutions throughout India, including 20 NITs. Students across the country would vie for 12,000 seats in the 40 participating institutes in the counselling process.

At present, the institute offered the following academic programmes: B.Tech (four years) in Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and Mining Engineering.

About 50 per cent of seats in the NIT would be reserved for Karnataka students.

Students from Karnataka and Goa seeking admission in 40 participating institutes, including the 20 NITs, were eligible for counselling at NIT-K, Surathkal. There were 480 seats on offer at NIT-K, Surathkal. Of these, 240 would be for students who passed their qualifying examinations in Karnataka and qualified in AIEEE. Of the 240 seats for Karnataka students, 188 will be in open category, 39 in Scheduled Caste category and 10 in Scheduled Tribe category and three seats for physically handicapped. Of the 197 seats for Karnataka students in 19 other NITs, 133 were for open category students, 39 for SC and 19 for ST students. Of the five seats for physically handicapped, three are in the open category and two are in SC category.

Prof Sancheti said arrangements had been made for the smooth conduct of AIEEE counselling at NITK. Limited hostel accommodation was available on payment for students and their parents coming from outside Mangalore. Those desirous of availing this facility should contact R.P. The reporting dates for all students seeking admission through first round of counselling was July 3 to 18. The academic session would begin from July 23. First year students seeking admission at NITK should attend an orientation programme to be held on July 20, 2007.
