Mangalore, May 23: Tight security has been arranged in Ullal constituency to hold fair and peaceful by-election, said Shankar Bidari, Additonal Police Director General (Law and Order).

He was speaking at the press conference organized at SP's office here on Wednesday May 23 evening.

There are 1, 61,070 voters in Ullal constituency. Out of them 80,000 are men and 81,070 are women. A total of 140 polling booths have been set up for voters, among which 56 are hyper-sensitive and 70 sensitive. Remaining 14 are common polling booths, he said.

Out of 140 polling booths, 24 come under Mangalore south police station, 1 under Mangalore east, 67 under Ullal, 25 under Konaje, 18 under Mangalore rural and 5 under Panambur police station. Under the direction of district superintend of police, Panambur DYSP B Pitambara Heraje would be the in-charge of by-poll security, he added.

A total of 25 mobile patrolling squads will operate in Ullal constituency from Saturday May 26 till the election counting gets over. The police department has listed 21 sensitive places in the constituency. Police forces will be deployed in the constituency from Sunday 27 May onwards for all 24 hours of the day, he added.

A total of 5 KSRP platoons have already reached the constituency.  Again, 4 companies of CISF forces would reach here on Friday May 25. Every polling booth will have a minimum of one armed personnel, Bidari informed.

Western Range IGP H S Satyanarayana Rao, SP B Dayanand and additional SP Lokeshkumar were also present at the press conference.
