Hertha Berlin snap up Freiburg's Darida

Berlin, July 19 (IANS): Midfielder Vladimir Darida joined German football club Hertha Berlin from relegated Freiburg, the 'Hauptstadtclub' confirmed.

Berlin signed their second new arrival of the summer transfer window. The 24-year-old penned a four-year deal on Saturday which keeps him with Hertha until June 2019 and he received shirt No.6, reports Xinhua.

"Vladimir Darida is a young, yet experienced, variable player who can give our team an important impulse," Berlin sporting director Michael Preetz said.

The Czech Republic international played since 2013 for Freiburg to score nine goals in 54 appearances. Aside from that, Darida is, since 2012, part of the Czech Republic national team where he made 25 caps.

"I am looking forward to my new task at Berlin. After good talks with those responsible I agreed on the transfer. Playing in Berlin's Olympia Stadium in front of the Hertha supporters is exciting and a challenge at the same time," the new arrival said.

Berlin see Augsburg in the first round of Bundesliga on August 15.
