Man United starts pre-season training with wantaway duo


Manchester, July 7 (IANS): English club Manchester United's wantaway footballers David de Gea and Robin van Persie have attended its first pre-season training despite persistent rumours of the duo willing to leave before the start of the 2015-16 season.

United held its training session at Carrington sports city here on Monday with the participation of Spanish goalkeeper De Gea and Dutch striker van Persie under the stewardship of coach Louis van Gaal, reports Efe.

Both players, who may go to Spanish club Real Madrid and Turkish team Fenerbahce, respectively, have started training as no decisions have been made regarding their possible departures, reports Efe.

Squad captain Wayne Rooney was the first to welcome the players at the sports center.

United will set out on its pre-season tour of North America shortly.

They will face the American national team in Seattle on July 17, American club San Jose Earthquakes on July 21, Spanish giants FC Barcelona at the Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, American club California on July 25 and French outfit Paris Saint-Germain at Soldier Field in Chicago on July 29.
