Money not an issue to buy RCB: Jindal

Ahmedabad, Jul 2 (DHNS): JSW Steel chairman Sajjan Jindal said on Wednesday that funds were not an issue as they go ahead with talks to take over Vijay Mallya’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

“We are in talks...acquisition depends on completion of the talks currently undergoing,” Sajjan Jindal, chairman of JSW Steel, said here on the sidelines of a function. Asked how much money they were willing to shell out for RCB, Jindal said, “Funds are not an issue.”

The JSW Group, which owns the I-League football team Bengaluru FC, have been keen to spread their wings in sports, with plans to establish Indian Institute of Sport, a world class sporting facility in Bengaluru. “Through our sporting arm – JSW Sports — we are keen to contribute in the field of sports, including kabaddi and other sports,” Jindal said.

Though RCB have not been able to win the Indian Premier League as yet, it is one of the leading franchises in the league, featuring some top names in international cricket.

Reports have said Diageo PLC, which owns the United Spirits Limited — the current owners of RCB — is pushing for the deal while Mallya is said to be against it. Mallya had bought RCB in 2008 with a bid of $111.6 million.
