India hockey team lose 1-2 to Belgium in practice match

Antwerp, June 14 (IANS): Following their 1-0 win over lower-ranked France, India narrowly lost their second practice match 1-2 to hosts Belgium ahead of the Hockey World League (HWL) Semi-Final which will be played here from June 20 to July 5.

Both matches were played on Saturday.

World No.4 Belgium opened their account in the 12th minute through a field goal. However, India levelled in the 32nd minute when forward Akashdeep Singh equalised, thanks to his brilliant stick-work.

Though India managed to keep ball possession for most of the time, the hosts scored when it mattered as the winning goal came in the 52nd minute.

Both teams earned three penalty corners each but failed to convert the opportunities. India will play their third practice match against the United States on June 16.

India will clash against France in their opening match on June 20.
