Ganesh in Kannada remake of 'Pataas'

Chennai, May 19 (IANS): "Mungaru Male" fame Ganesh has been roped in to play the lead in the yet-untitled Kannada remake of recent Telugu hit "Pataas". The film is expected to roll from June.

"While Ganesh will be playing the lead, Manju Swaraj will be direct the project. Both Ganesh and Manju make a great team after the success of 'Shravani Subramanya', and so, I brought them together," the film's producer S.V. Babu told IANS.

Tentatively title "Gani", the remake will not be a frame-to-frame copy of the original.

"There's no point in merely copying scenes from the original in the remake, which can be done by anybody. We would make slight changes to suit the ethnicity and give our film a local flavour," he said, and added that they plan to start shooting from June.

While the rest of the cast is yet to be finalised, Babu says that talks are on with actor Manoj Bajpayee to play an important role in the movie.

Released earlier this year, "Pataas" is one of the most successful Telugu films of recent times. Talks are already on for its Tamil and Hindi remakes.

It has already been decided that actor-filmmaker Raghava Lawrencce will star in the film's Tamil version.
