'No-budget' movie on arranged marriage seeks US promotion

Washington, May 14 (IANS): "What's Love Got To Do With It?" an unscripted micro-budget film that explores arranged marriages in Indian society, has tied up with Saavn and Brown Girl magazine for its promotion in the US.

The film uses humour to expose subtle insidious conflicts at play among well-travelled urban Indians grappling with decisions about how and whom to marry, at once juggling societal and parental desires with their own.

"We are delighted to partner with SAAVN and Brown Girl Magazine on the promotion of this film. We are a no-budget movie so the support of the community is very important to our success," said director Rohena Gera.

Saavn, India's leading digital music service, combines internet radio and on-demand music capabilities, coupled with proprietary social features like music tagging and music chat, to deliver one of the richest media experiences on mobile and Web BrownGirlMagazine.com is an online publication tailored and targeted for young South Asian women (and men) living in the diaspora.

The magazine provides an outlet where South Asian women can feel empowered, express their ideas, life experiences, learn more about their culture and build respect for themselves.

"What's Love Got To Do With It?" currently has eight live requests for screenings in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Texas, Washington DC and California.
