Bopanna-Mergea clinch Madrid Open title


Madrid, May 11 (IANS): The unseeded Indian-Romanian pair of Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea beat the Serbian-Polish pair of Nenad Zimonjic and Martin Matkowski 6-2, 6-7, 11-9 to clinch the men's doubles Madrid Open title on Sunday.

It was Bopanna's third title of the 2015 season.

The first set saw a one-sided battle with the Indian-Romanian duo ending on the winning side.

The Serbian-Polish pair, however, did not give up as they came hard at their opponent, winning the second set 7-6 in a tough battle.

But, Bopanna-Mergea held their nerves till the end to win the contest in the tie breaker 11-9, thereby sealing the title.
