Fan beats Niwa at table tennis worlds


Suzhou (China), May 1 (IANS): Youth Olympics champion Fan Zhendong handed a five-set loss to Koki Niwa at the World Table Tennis Championships here on Friday.

The 18-year-old World No.4 beat 12th-ranked Japanese 11-5, 12-14, 11-2, 11-2, 11-9 and reached the men's singles quarterfinals, reports Xinhua.

He will take on the winner of the match between German Timo Boll and Hong Kong's Wong Chun Ting on Saturday.
