Mid Day

Mumbai, Mar 19: On the morning of March 18, the security guard of Naparol Towers heard a loud thud and rushed to the B wing entrance only to find Mumtaz Fazar Ali Mandal lying in pool of blood.

The police are puzzled at the death because the family, where Mumtaz was employed, lived on the 22nd floor in flat numbers 224 and 225, which had grills in the balconies.

“We do not know which floor she fell from, but it is possible that she may have jumped from the ninth, 16th or 23rd floors of the tower, which have an emergency landing, used in case of fires, and therefore have no grills,” says investigating officer Yashwant Chavan from the R A Kidwai Police station.

The girl’s cousin, Sherifful Sardar (25), in his statement to the police, has said that the family who she worked for physically and mentally harassed Mumtaz.

“She was going to quit her job and return to her village in West Bengal on April 1 as she was facing a lot of problems with her employees,” said Sardar.

Chavan added, “We have noted down the allegations of the cousin and also taken the statements of the flats-owner.

We are waiting for the postmortem reports, after which appropriate action will be taken.” MiD DAY found the flat locked on Sunday.
