Rome, Mar 6: The Mangaloreans in the Italian capital are happy with the appointment of two community members as professors in two prestigious Universities.

Dr Sr Jacintha Veigas, belonging to the Congregation of Dominican School Missionaries, has been appointed Professor at Pontifical University of St.Thomas Aquinas, Angelicum.

Since October 2006, she has been teaching Sacred Scriptures (Bible) to those studying for Bachelor's degree in Theology.

Sr. Jacintha  is the daughter of the late Juliana and the late John Veigas of Badyar, Mangalore. She is the sixth of the nine children to her parents.

She had graduated from St Agnes College, Mangalore after which, in 1998, she was sent to Rome for ecclesiastical studies. In 1998 she began her academic life in Rome with Philosophical studies, followed by Theological.

Having done well in these studies, she was encouraged by her superiors to pursue Masters degree in Biblical Studies and then a Doctorate, which she completed on December 15, 2006 with excellence. The Mangalorean community in Rome is proud of her and wishes her every best.

Dr Fr Elias Frank of Asansol diocese, West Bengal, has been appointed Professor of Canon Law, from the academic year 2006 -2007, in Pontifical Urbaniana University (PUU), Rome; he lectures the post-graduates. He is the first Indian priest to be called to teach Canon Law (Church law) in PUU.

Fr Elias is the son of Therese and Ambrose Frank of Infant Jesus' Church, Bantwal. He was ordained a priest for the archdiocese of Kolkata (then Calcutta), after the division of that diocese in 1998, he belongs to the newdiocese of Asansol.

He was the first priest of the new diocese to be sent to Rome in 1999 to pursue higher studies.

From 1999 to 2004 he obtained a Masters degree in Canon Law, a diploma in Jurisprudence and a Doctorate withdistinction in Canon Law.

In 2005 he received an invitation from PUU toteach in its Canon Law faculty, to which his Cyprian Monis consented. His well-wishers are proud of his achievement and wish him every success.
