Airbus supports Modi's 'Make in India' initiative

Toulouse (France), Apr 11 (PTI): Expressing support to 'Make in India' initiative, aircraft manufacturer Airbus today said it is ready to manufacture in India, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited its facility here.

Modi took the tour of the facility where planes are manufactured. He was given a briefing by officials on the functioning.

Airbus Group CEO Tom Enders, who received the Indian leader, said: "We are honoured to host Prime Minister Modi in Toulouse and convey to him our desire to forge a stronger industrial bond with India. India already takes a centre-stage role in our international activities and we want to even increase its contribution to our products."

"We support Prime Minister Modi's 'Make in India' call and (we) are ready to manufacture in India, for India and the world," he added.

In India, Airbus Group already operates two engineering centres - one focused on civil aviation and the other one defence - besides, a research and technology (R&T) centre which together employ over 400 highly qualified people.

The group's senior representative conveyed their decision to expand these centres so that they can take on comprehensive design responsibilities for future Airbus group programmes.

Prime Minister Modi was given a tour of the Airbus A380 final assembly line. Currently, four A380 flights serve India daily.

"Much larger markets are waiting to be tapped, the potential for A380 to help Indian carriers win greater multinational market share with a flagship aircraft is enormous," an Airbus press release said.

The group is willing to set up final assembly lines and establish supply chains and related infrastructure for military transport aircraft and helicopters in India, the press release said.

These would be in full compliance with the procurement policies specified by the Indian Ministry of Defence and local FDI guidelines, the release said.

Airbus Defence and Space has submitted a joint proposal with Tata to produce the modern C-295 aircraft in India as a replacement for the ageing Avro aircraft of the Indian Air Force.

The division also plans to develop and manufacture electronic sensors with a partner in India and has advanced discussions to support Hindustan Aeronautics' (HAL) combat aircraft programme, the release said.

Airbus Helicopters is in discussions with Indian companies to finalise teaming arrangements of various helicopter programmes, including naval utility helicopters, reconnaissance and surveillance helicopters as well as naval multi-role helicopters.

The Prime Minister also visited the French CNES space agency's facility where a group of Indian students greeted him and posed for photographs and took selfies.

If i am still alive at the turn of 2025, i would be keen to see if Airbus or Boeing sign up to even manufacture paint for the thier flying machines.

On a differnt note i do not understand why Mr. Modi had to go to France to inspect or view Airbus, it would have been more economical to come to M'lore / Udupi to see first hand the Airbuses on the the highways and even for that matter within the city limits. It would have added a bit if more fun for the local polys.

India won't get even a contract to put a screw in Airbus .. It already has enough suppliers in many countries for parts .. Stop this fekugiri .. Please work on asking countries to accept Indian products .. Even Middle East authorities prefer European products and not ready to accept china .. It's a long road to go for Indian products to be accepted by European countries

hahaha just see what happens when land bill is passed.modi has already told that he will give report card in 2019 to people and if he fails he will not stand for pm post again. to people.

his target is to create millions of jobs in manufacturing sector to people mainly for poor people.

that is the main reason he is hellbent in passing land.
you will get a sweet surprise of what his achievements are at the end of 2019.thats why he is going at rocket space and working 24/7.

whatever he has done untill now in 10 months, prev govt coudnt do it even in 10 years .he is not a regular politician like others.world knows his strength thats why they are respecting him..

People complaining about him visiting other countries can shut up now. He is the head of government, his efforts take a large part in whether foreign corporations will invest in India and India needs tens of millions of manufacturing jobs to sustain more than one billion people, not just thousands of call center or IT jobs. His visits are a confidence-building measure to achieve this and repair whatever damage was done in foreign relations in the last ten years. The other key things are these investors need to see that at both federal and state level, they have support. This means they are more likely to invest in NDA states or a few states with similar policy (Tamil Nadu, for example). This is the only way India's economy will survive.

You could be day dreaming, along with all Modi bakhts.
Airbus is not even made in France. It is only assembled in France at Toulouse factory, where bulk of the assembly plants are located.
Most of the Airbus parts are made in UK, Spain, Germany, Austria, Japan, China and USA.
If that has to be wholly or partly assembled in India, it is not France government which will decide but EADS, its parent company which is joint stock company of several European governments, including private investors.
Unless Mr. Modi buys the majority stake in the company, that is 51% of the total of 65 Billion US Dollars.
Till then if some one farts there, dont make it a a news.
