I know a lot of sex-addicts/'Mandar Ponkshes': Gulshan Devaiah

Mumbai, Mar 30: Former theatre actor Gulshan Devaiah who claims to have retired indefinitely from theatre says that his recent movie 'Hunterrr' is one that people can easily relate to because like him everybody knows others like him (Mandar Ponkshe).

He elaborated that within the first 15 pages of the script he was able to realise that Mandar was indeed just another ordinary guy albeit one that was leading a dual life. He explained that growing up he was very aware of there being other people who had voracious sexual appetites and it was the common-ness of the character that appealed to him. He said such people tread a fine line and yet stay sane because they don't talk much about their addiction.

Speaking about his character in the movie, he said, "He is your average Joe, or Ramu, who lives a colourful “secret” life; he’s not brave to admit it openly, and he wants to keep it safe. I suppose this is how it is in real life too – Harshavardhan knows such guys, based on whom he wrote the script. They don’t brag about what they do; you accidentally figure it out. I knew a guy like this – you know how boy-talk is! And in my opinion, one should never over-think anything. If a role appeals to you and your portrayal is sincere, that’s all that matters. The character had an Amol Palekar feel to it."

Gulshan further said that it made sense that more men related to it very easily because, it was primarily about guys and sex. He also added that while the movie wasn't an out and out chick flick it would appeal to women as well because they too, he believed, were aware of men like Mandar in real life. He reveals that he has personally snuck into theatres to gauge audience responses to his films and he was happy to see girls coming to watch it with their boyfriends and women coming with their families.
