Rons Bantwal for Daijiworld Media Network – Mumbai (LS)

Mumbai, Jan 31: Devadiga Sangha will be inaugurating its first regional cultural centre, ‘Devadiga Bhavan’ on Saturday February 24 at Nerul, Navi Mumbai here.

Chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh will be the chief guest. Shree Kshetra Dharmastala dharmadhikari Dr Veerendra Heggade, Shree Grama Vikasa Kendra president Hemavathi V Heggade and former chief minister of Karnataka and Administrative Reform Committee chairman M Veerappa Moily, will bless the occasion. Minister for excise, environment and labour Ganesh Naik will be the guest.

Established in 1925, Devadiga Sangha is one of the premier charitable institutions of the state. The main objective of this sangha is to strive for socio-economic development especially for the poor and the downtrodden. It encourages education, sports and other cultural activities. The sangha has strong base of membership and the support of numerous philanthropists in this mega city.

To expand the activities aimed at encouraging education, culture and better living, the sangha has taken up a project of establishing a regional cultural center at Navi Mumbai. The project will be open for general public, irrespective of caste creed and religion.


Devadiga Bhavan under construction

The construction of the regional cultural centre is on its completion at an estimated cost of Rs 220 lac, and consists of two public auditoriums to encourage art and cultural activities,  child care centre for the benefit of children of working women, vocational education and computer centre to impart training for the youth

The organization also has come up with medical guidance centre. This project is being supported by spontaneous donations and support from members, charitable institutions and governmental organizations.
