Mumbai, Feb 26: Barely a week after its release and actor Varun Dhawan's much touted film Badlapur earns 34crores, making it the fourth highest grossing movie of 2015, thus far. The movie which has been certified only for adults due to sex and violence scenes, it seems has resonated with the masses despite the anger and the gore portrayed.

Released on the 2oth of February, Badlapur stars Varun Dhawan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Yami Gupta. It tells the tale of a young man whose grief refuses relinquish its hold on him and consequently sends him on a killing spree for his own peace of mind. The movie opened well on Friday thanks to the raving reviews given by various Bollywood biggies who watched a special screening of the same.

When questioned about his choice of films always having an undercurrent of revenge and anger, director Sriram Raghavan said, "Ek Haseena Thi could be termed as a romantic, revenge thriller or a jail drama. Johnny Gaddaar was a caper heist movie. Agent Vinod was a spy thriller. Now Badlapur is a psychological thriller. I like exploring this genre to the fullest," He further said , "Everyone I meet asks me why do I make only thrillers. My point is that even within the genre, there is so much variety. Every film requires its own kind of focus and internalization I guess."

The movie has gone from strength to strength each passing day as it attracts more footfalls into theatres. The movie's allure was such that it continued to have enough audiences despite the India - South Africa World Cup match being on at the same time.
