Mumbai, Feb 26: Director Mahesh Bhatt breathed new life into the 1989 movie 'Daddy' when he made it into a play and now the play is all set to be staged in Pakistan, which will be attended by Mahesh Bhatt and his daughter Pooja. The play, reportedly, will be staged at the forthcoming International Theatre Festival 2015 organised by the National Academy of Performing Arts, Karachi.

'Daddy' had been Pooja Bhatt's debut movie, way back in 1989 and the actress seems thrilled about the form that the story has taken since then. She tweeted, "'Daddy' to be staged as a play in Pakistan. Mahesh & Pooja Bhatt to attend," She followed this with a link of the article written about the play in the Pakistan daily called the News International.

The theatrical adaptation of the movie was first staged in India in August, 2014, where in Mahesh Bhatt said, "Post the success of 'Arth's theatrical version, I thought that 'Daddy', too, was a kind of movie that could be brilliantly adapted for the stage. It has the same raw human emotions and naked truths about life and hence can have a similar kind of impact,"

Delhi based actor Imran Zahid plays the role of the drunk father who driven by his inner demons, abandons his child as an infant and returns years later. The character had been assayed in the original movie by Anupam Kher, who won a National Award (1990) as well as a Filmfare Critics award (1991) for his performance in the film.

The play, like the movie, tells the story of a little girl who grows up with her grandparents with the knowledge that her parents are no more. Years later she meets an alcoholic man who rescues her from some miscreants and she comes to know that he is her father. Upon learning the compelling reasons that forced her father to take to the bottle and leave home, the girl helps her father shed the deadly habit and get back to his old self.
