Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith win big at BRIT Awards


London, Feb 26 (IANS): Singers Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith took home the biggest honours at the 2015 BRIT Awards, which took place here at O2 Arena Wednesday.

Sheeran won multiple awards, including British Male Solo Artist and British Album of the Year for his highly acclaimed “X”.

Apart from Smith, Sheeran was competing with Damon Albarn, George Ezra, Paolo Nutini in the Male Solo Artist category.

“X” won the the Album Of The Year award against Alt-J's “This Is All Yours”, George Ezra (“Wanted On Voyage”), Royal Blood for “Royal Blood” and Smith's “In The Lonely Hour”.

Although he lost in those two categories won by Sheeran, Smith nabbed the British Breakthrough Act and Global Success award.

The Female Solo Artist trophy was bestowed to Paloma Faith, who was nominated along with Ella Henderson, FKA Twigs, Jessie Ware and Lily Allen.

US singers Taylor Swift and Pharrell Williams bagged the International Female Solo Artist and International Male Solo Artist Award, respectively.

Meanwhile, Dave Grohl and his bandmates from Foo fighters claimed the top prize in the International Group category. Royal Blood took home the British Group award.

The boyband One Direction clinched the Video of the Year award for their single “You and I”.

Mark Ronson won the British Single award for “Uptown Funk” featuring Bruno Mars, while the British Producer of the Year trophy was given to Paul Epworth, and singer James Bay won the Critics' Choice award.
