'Sicario' to release in US Sep 25

Los Angeles, Feb 25 (IANS): The drug trafficking drama "Sicario" will hit US screens Sep 25.

The drug trafficking drama, starring Emily Blunt, Benicio Del Toro, Josh Brolin and Jon Bernthal, is slated for a Sep 18 limited release, followed by a wide release on Sep 25. It will face stiff competition from "Hotel Transylvania 2", horror thriller "The Disappointments Room", and comedy "The Intern", all of which are also set for release Sep 25, reports variety.com.

"Sicario" tells the story of a FBI agent (portrayed by Blunt) being exposed to the brutal world of international drug trafficking by members of a government task force -- played by Brolin and Del Toro -- who have enlisted her in their plan to take out a Mexican cartel boss. The setting will be in the lawless border area between the US and Mexico.

Its script was written by Taylor Sheridan. While Denis Villeneuve has been tapped to direct the project, the producers are Basil Iwanyk, Molly Smith, Trent Luckinbill, Thad Luckinbill and Edward McDonnell.
