Mangaluru: Help 19-year-old Bhavyashree overcome TB, liver injury

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Feb 19: Bhavyashree V Devadiga (19), daughter of Anand S Devadiga, resident of Kulai here, was like any other teenager immersed in studies and friends, until tuberculosis that struck her over a year ago changed her life.

Now, Bhavyashree, a first year degree student, is being treated with drugs. In December 2014, she suffered from jaundice. Medical tests at KMC Hospital in the city recently have concluded that her liver has suffered drug-induced injury.

Bhavyashree has been advised to continue with medications till she gets rid of the disease completely. Anand works in a small canteen at Thane, while Bhavyashree's mother is a housewife. The family has spent a huge amount so far on Bhavyashree's treatment, by borrowing from various sources, as it entirely depends on one man's income, and resides in a rented house.

The doctors expect that it will take not less than18 more months for the disease to completely subside. Anand is hard pressed for money and finds it impossible to pool enough to keep the treatment going. He wants to see his daughter regain full health, and now looks up to the large-heartedness of philanthropists. Having no other option to pool funds for his daughter's treatment, he has sought helping hands and requested financial aid from philanthropists.

Do help Bhavyashree lead a normal life once again and also please pray for her quick recovery. Contributions may be sent to her father's bank account given below:

so sorry, dear Bhavya, instead of enjoying life and reading books ,have to see how you get well.Never mind, you will be better, soon you can do things what you wanted.Important is first get well, you are Young.you have time to do once health recovered.but onething is disturbing me.How and from where you got this infection?does anyone from Family has ?when then it should be cleared and treated.otherwise no use of one treating, and again getting.TB.is more in India spread than in other countrys. Not only Treatment but avoiding is also important.sometimes from schoolmates,or nearer Family members had it.Never mind dear Bhavya, now you know you will get your health back soon.

Bro, you are right, treatment of TB is better in dedicated TB centres run by the govt. where everything is free under the RNTCP program, here are are many reasons why people in India may seek care outside the RNTCP. These include:
    poor knowledge about TB
poor knowledge about services available through the national programme the convenience of services a desire for confidentiality a desire for personalized care.

Even HIV afflicted people are being provided free ration of antiretrovirals at least in Mumbai, which many people take advantage of!!

Awareness should be increased so that more and more people take full advantage of such schemes provided by the Govt. especially for the poorer sections of society!!

That you are saying, just go and see in any govt. hospital in Mumbai where they have dedicated TB clinics what is the success rate!! Even there is totally dedicated surgical hospital in Sewri, Mumbai which does surgeries in case of intractable TB infections especially pulmonary!!

Empathize with this young girl and she deserves generous help!!

Incidentally many people are not aware of the fact that under The Revised National TB Control Programme (RNTCP) “Many people are unaware that all the medicines needed to treat TB patients are available free of cost at Indian government hospitals. Most people tend to spend huge amounts in private hospitals.” ~extracted from tbfacts.org~

For TB District Hospital is providing medicine free of cost If it is drug resistance they will take care of the Patients according to WHO standards. let her visit district TB office in Mangalore . I know personally how Tb patients are treated in Private hospital without any proper guidelines.Dots is an good WHO program for TB Patients in which cure rate is very high.

Imagine life of a normal family with healthy members - how they try hard to make all ends met with ONE person's earnings ! Here, a member needs to be treated for TB, a disease that is well known for expensive medicines.

We DW readers have worked wonders. We have built shelter to the homeless, we have offered limbs to the handicapped and we have supported the orphans.

Here, we have another challenge thrown at us. Lets be there for Bhavyashree, let a blossom bloom, not wilt and die away untimely.

Don't worry you little angle, there is light beyond a dark tunnel, DW readers will lead you till there !
