Mumbai, Jan 1: The warmer Mumbai seafront and other places in the city saw occasion celebrated with gusto.

Marine Drive, the "Queen's Necklace", Gateway of India and the beaches drew maximum crowds while others chose to jubilate in star hotels, pubs and discos.

Celebrities like A R Rahman, Nelly Furtado, Himesh Reshamiya and Mallika Sherawat performed at events to ring in the New Year in the city.

A force of over 25,000 was "on the field through the night," Mumbai deputy commissioner of police (Operations) R N Tadvi said.
