Modi, Kerry pay tribute to Paris terror victims

Gandhinagar, Jan 11 (IANS): With Parisians gearing up Sunday to hold a massive solidarity rally in France against the terror attack on French magazine Charlie Hebdo, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US Secretary of State John Kerry paid tributes to the victims of the attack.

Modi started his speech at the seventh Vibrant Gujarat global investment summit here by paying tributes to the victims of last week's terror attack in Paris.

He said all the countries in the world had to show that they were determined to fight terror in all forms.

John Kerry said the world had to take a pledge that no act of terror would make it give up freedom.

"We stand in tribute with the people of France, not just in anger but for the cause of freedom," Kerry said.

The terrorist attacks started Wednesday when two brothers killed 12 people and injured 11 others, and targeted the office of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

An associate of the brothers, Amedy Coulibaly, killed a French policewoman Thursday and held a number of people hostage in a Jewish grocery store in Paris Friday.

Coulibaly was killed Friday, as were the two brothers. Four hostages also died at the Jewish grocery store.
