Islamabad, Jan 10 (IANS): Famine in Pakistan's Hindu-majority district of Tharparkar claimed four more lives Saturday raising the toll to 301 in a span of 101 days, and 44 for the month of January 2015 so far, media reported.

Tharparkar district in Sindh province has been facing scarcity of water, food and facilities for three years but nothing much seems to have been done by the government. The sluggish distribution of wheat, blankets and dates has only added to the troubles of the affected people.

Most Hindus in Pakistan live in Sindh province and a majority of them are residents of Tharparkar, the district that borders India. Most of them are subsistence farmers who are facing famine due to poor rainfall for almost five successive years.

Eight-day-old Kausar in Diplo, nine-month old Perkaash in Civil Hospital Mithi, and a six-month old child at district hospital Chachro were among the four who died Saturday. Twenty five children are being treated at the hospital.
