Mexico, Rotterdam to host 2016 and 2017 World Triathlon finals


London, Dec 16 (IANS): Mexico and the city of Rotterdam in the Netherlands will host the 2016 and 2017 World Triathlon grand finals respectively, the International Triathlon Union (ITU) has announced.

Mexico has staged a number of ITU events, including the 1995 and 2002 World Championships, the 2006 Team Triathlon World Championships, which saw men and women competing in separate relays, and numerous World Cup races, reports Xinhua.

The host city of the 2015 grand final will be announced early in 2015, ITU said Monday.

Rotterdam will debut as the host of the grand final in 2017, for which it has proposed a circuit in the city on the famous peninsula Kop van Zuid in front of the New York Hotel.

Next year's triathlon grand final is due to be held in Chicago from Sep 15-20.
