Almeria sack coach Franciso Rodriguez

Madrid, Dec 10 (IANS): Spanish Primera Liga strugglers Almeria have sacked coach Francisco Rodriguez.

Rodriguez, who was the youngest coach in the Primera Liga, was sacked Tuesday in the wake of his side's 2-5 thrashing away to recently promoted Eibar Monday night that left them 17th in the league table with just 10 points from their opening 14 matches of the campaign, reports Xinhua.

"The team has not won for eight weeks during which we have only won eight points means there is a need to find a solution to end this run and that is why Almeria has been forced into this difficult decision," explained the club on its official website.

He becomes the third coach to be sacked this season following the decision to sack Jose Luis Mendilibar by Levante and Albert Ferrer by Cordoba.

Almeria are level on points with the three sides below them and are only out of the relegation zone on goal difference.

Meanwhile, the team from the south-east part of Spain have yet to win a home match this season.

Rodriguez was in his second season with the club and retained his position after helping them avoid relegation last season, but following Monday's heavy defeat he met with the club president, Alfonso Garcia, who Tuesday brought his term in charge to an end.
