Zidane urges Henry to retire after Brazil friendly

Paris, Dec 3 (IANS): Former French captain Zinedine Zidane has been among the voices urging veteran striker Thierry Henry to make a final Les Bleus appearance against Brazil in a friendly March 26, 2015.

The international at Stade de France will be a rematch of the 1998 World Cup final where France beat Brazil 3-0 to lift their first trophy of the grand event, reports Xinhua.

The 37-year-old Henry, having won the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 alongside Zidane, just released an official announcement Monday to confirm his departure from Major League Soccer side New York Red Bulls.

The former Arsenal and Barcelona star, who retired from international duty after the 2010 World Cup, said he has not yet made up his mind on his future despite his willing to stay in the game.

"For everything he has brought to French football, it would be a great moment for him," said Zidane. And the opponents would bring him back some good memories," Zidane, who won the Golden Ball awards as the best player of the FIFA World Cup 2006, said.

"It would be a great pleasure to play with him if he is called up," Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann echoed.

Former coach Raymond Domenech disagreed, however, saying that "playing for the national team should not be a gift and Henry knows it."

Henry played 123 matches for France and scored 51 goals.
