Leaders Marseille held by Lorient in Ligue 1

Paris, Dec 3 (IANS): Ligue 1 leaders Marseille were held 1-1 at Lorient while Monaco triumphed over Lens and Nantes were defeated by Toulouse.

Former Marseille striker Jordan Ayew scored a penalty in the 37th minute to cancel out Dimitri Payet's opener just five minutes ago at the Stade du Moustoir Tuesday, reports Xinhua.

Marcelo Bielsa's side dominated the match and created all the chances but managed a solitary goal in the 32nd minute.

Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda then brought down Benjamin Jeannot inside the box to grand Lorient the penalty leading to level terms.

Top scorer of the visitors, Andre-Pierre Gignac, had been missing his chances all night long, including a nine-meter drive just inches past the post.

The draw left the leaders with just two-point lead at the top, facing the danger of being overhauled by defending champions Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) who face Lille Wednesday.

A 10th straight victory for PSG in all competitions will see them take over at the summit from the title rivals.

Later Tuesday, Monaco hit back for a 2-0 win at home over Lens despite going a man down in the first half.

Dimitar Berbatov scored a penalty in the 64th, before Yannick Ferreira Carrasco made sure of the points with a stunning strike deep into injury time.

The hosts' young Brazilian defender Wallace was redcarded in the 35th minutes for his tackle on Benjamin Bourigeaud.

Monaco hadn't won in the league since their 3-1 victory in Bastia five weeks ago.

Elsewhere Tuesday, Toulouse returned to winning ways with a narrow 2-1 victory over Nantes at Stade de la Beaujoire, as Martin Braithwaite netted a late winner.
