Mahek, Siddanth win in junior tennis


Pune, Dec 1 (IANS): Siddanth Banthia and Mahek Jain started their campaign on a winning note by making it to Round 2 of the Gadre-MSLTA ITF Junior Tennis Championships being played at the Mhalunge Balewadi Tennis Stadium here Monday.

Pune's Siddanth accounted for Vijai Vijayaraman 7-6(3), 6-0 while Sahil Deshmukh won a close match, scraping past Goa boy Tejas Shevde 7-6(2), 7-5.

In the girls event, Shivani Manjana accounted for Australian Shubhika Dubey 6-3, 6-3 while Dakshata Patel ousted Cara Samways of Britain 6-3, 6-1. National Under-14 champion Mahek scored a convincing 6-0, 6-4 win over Ishwari Mathere.
