Kuwait, Nov 17: Writers Forum, Kuwait organized a Unique Kavi Sammelan / Mushaira comprising of nine Indian languages on November 10, 2006 at the auditorium of Indian Community School, Salmiya. H.E. the Ambassador of India, M. Ganapathi was the chief guest whereas Dr. Mirza Umer Beg was the President of the Kavi Sammelan / Mushaira. General Secretary of the Writers Forum and Urdu Poetess Shahjahan Jaffery was the compere of the program. Sana Sabharwal read out English translation of poems recited by poets of various Indian languages.

Program started with lighting of the lamp by H.E. the Ambassador of India, M. Ganapathi, president of the Writer Forum, Umesh Sharma and Shahjahan Jaffery.

At the outset, Shahajahan Jaffery welcomed the Chief Guest, dignitaries, sponsors and audience.  She called upon the poets and writers form all other Indian languages to join Writers Forum to bolster the mission to promote the national integrity and understanding.

Sharma, in his address, stressed the need of such programs as frequently as possible since poetry rekindles emotional aura of human beings and rejuvenates them.

 

Chief Guest, H.E. the Ambassador of India, M. Ganapathi appreciated efforts put up by the Writers Forum to organize such a unique literary evening.  He congratulated Writers Forum for bringing so many Indian languages on one platform and wished Writers Forum success in its all future endeavours.

Outgoing President and the Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award winner, Lancy Pinto Nayak was presented a memento by H.E. the Ambassador of India, M.Ganapathi on behalf of the Writers Forum for his extra ordinary services to the Forum during his tenure 2003 – 2006.

Sponsors (M/s Rezayaat Trading & Contracting Co. and a well wisher) were presented with a copy of Navratna and bouquet by the Vice President & Punjabi Poet, Jasbir Singh Dhiman and Treasurer & Gujrati Poet, Natwar Jajal.

Two anthologies Tanhaai Meri and Takallum ke Goonge Ghar  written by Sahahjahan Jaffery were released by H.E. the Ambassador of India, M. Ganapathi. Ms. Maimuna Chougle gave a brief account of these books.

Kavi Sammelan / Mushaira was conducted in the alphabetical order of languages and poets. Each poem, read by the poet, was followed by its English translation. This was a new experience and experiment but was enjoyed overwhelmingly by the audience of varied backgrounds and strata of the society.

 

Those who participated in poetry recital were;

Gujrati : Natwar Jajal, Lalit Nirmal, Ramesh Rajpura; Hindi :  Umesh Sharma;  Konkani : Lancy Pinto Nayak; Malayalam & English : Lisy Kuriakose; Marathi : Chhayaa Athavale; Punjabi : Gurbakash Singh Dogra, Jasbir Singh Dhiman; Tamil : VEP Mathiazhagan; Urdu : Abdulla Sajid, Afroz Alam, Maimuna Chougle, Shahjahan Jaffery, Syed Qamar Minto

President of the Kavi Sammelan / Mushaira, Dr. Beg expressed his joy as if his dream came true. He mentioned that a new trend has started in the field of the poetry and we should continue with more and more zeal and refinement. This is definitely a feather in the cap for the Writers Forum, Kuwait. He congratulated Writers forum, Kuwait for this extra ordinary achievement.

At the conclusion, Maimuna Chougle extended Vote of thanks to the chief Guest, School management, sponsors and audience.
