Low tips a German world champion to be FIFA award winner

Berlin, Nov 19 (IANS): German coach Joachim Low expects one of his 2014 World Cup winning players to be named as FIFA World Player of the Year, according to media reports Wednesday.

"I think it's already becoming a close contest to see which player will get this accolade," Loew said, reports Xinhua.

"But I think it will be one of the Germans."

FIFA named six World Cup winning players to its provisional list of award nominees: retired captain Philipp Lahm, current captain Bastian Schweinsteiger, goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, Thomas Mueller, Mario Goetze - all of Bayern Munich - and Real Madrid's Toni Kroos.
