Del Bosque pleased with win over Belarus

Madrid, Nov 16 (IANS): Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque fielded a side without stalwarts Andres Iniesta, David Silva and Cesc Fabregas, as well as missing regulars Diego Costa and Dani Carvajal, but was still rewarded with a 3-0 win over Belarus in their Euro 2016 qualifying game.

First half goals from Isco and Sergio Busquets were supplemented by a second half strike Pedro Saturday night to give the Spanish, a convincing win in what was perhaps their best display since last summer's disappointment in the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil, reports Xinhua.

"We played well, we dominated the game and in less than half an hour we scored two goals," said Del Bosque, who nevertheless was critical of his players at times taking too long to launch their attacks.

"We didn't help ourselves by trying to play too neat and to be too clever," he said, with special words of praise for Real Madrid midfielder, Isco, who is currently enjoying a fine spell of form.

The only bad news was when central defender, Sergio Ramos continued his apparent criticism of Chelsea duo, Costa and Fabregas, both of whom missed the game through injuries.

Earlier in the week, Ramos had questioned the commitment of the pair towards Spain, despite the fact Fabregas has over 90 appearances for his country, and after the Belarus game he was in no mood to change his opinion.

"What I said was a completely true," said Ramos, who added that perhaps his original words had been "taken out of context."
