Mumbai, Nov 2: Filmstar Akshay Kumar had the privilege of accepting ‘The Flame of Hope”, the torch for the first-ever International Olympics Cricket Cup.

The torch was passed on to Akshay by Pakistani Cricketer Wasim Akram at Wagah Border. The torch was lit at The Lord’s stadium in London, then moved on to Sydney, then Wagah and now, Akshay will bring it down to Mumbai.

The Special Olympics will begin at the Police Gymkhana in Mumbai from November 6. Akshay Kumar will also be present at the ground to flag off the event. The event will open with a celebrity match. The idea behind the Special Olympics is to train mentally and physically disabled people in sports.

Says Akshay, there are many families in India who don’t bring out their disabled children in open because they are ashamed but the fact is that they are more dedicated athletes and will bring pride to the nation.

Akshay has been involved with this cause since a long time and it seems that his celebrity status has been successful to attract greater number of Indian athletes.
