Squash: Sandhu enters round of eight


Mumbai, Oct 10 (IANS) India's Harinder Pal Sandhu qualified for the quarter-finals of the JSW India Challenger Circuit squash tournament here Thursday after a hamstring injury caused his opponent, France's Arthur Moineau to retire after the third game.

Sandhu led 6-11,11-6, 6-1 when Moineau limped off the court. Sandhu will now face Egypt's Shehab Essam Hosny who beat Pakistan's Amaad Fareed 12-10, 15-13, 11-9 in a very exciting 45 minutes.

Top seed Egyptian Zahed Mohamed defeated home favorite Kush Kumar 11-9,11-7,11-7 to save his spot in the quarterfinals where he will face Pakistan's Mohamed Asif Khan who beat England's Agnus Gillams 8-11, 4-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-4 in a marathon 92-minute match.

In the women's main draw, Pakistani's Sammer Anjum was the first to qualify for the quarter-finals, defeating Nikita Joshi 11-7, 11-6, 11-8, while finalist in the Jaipur leg of the circuit, South Africa's Cheyna Tucker beat Pakistan's Sadia Gul 11-3, 11-6, 11-4 and set up a clash with Jaipur leg winner Egypt's Nouran El Torky who beat Jindal Squash Academy talent Urwashi Joshi 15-13,11-5,11-7.
