ABU DHABI, Sep 23: The holy month of Ramadan will begin today, it was announced here yesterday.

The moon sighting committee announced that the new moon marking the advent of the holy month of Ramadan has been sighted. “Accordingly, the first day of Ramadan will be September 23," the committee said in a statement.

The committee, chaired by Justice Minister Mohammed Nakhira Al Dhahiri, extended its greetings to the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Their Highnesses the Supreme Council Members and Rulers of Emirates, General  Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and to Crown Princes and Deputy Rulers. They also greeted Muslims in the UAE and across the world.
