Rumours are rife in Bollywood that Esha Deol will play her mother Hema Malini ’s role in the remake of Sholay to be made by Ram Gopal Varma .

Rumours add that Ramu is seriously considering the proposal to sign Esha for the role of Basanti that was immortalized by Hema in the cult classic 30 years ago.

Hema says that Basanti's character was conceived for her only. However, her daughter Esha is equally capable of acting as Basanti, she adds.

Esha, who has made a place for herself in Bollywood by successfully playing a variety of roles, is reported to be very excited with the proposed role of Basanti.

Esha says she will not leave any stone unturned to justify this historical character that is remembered even today by millions of viewers after several decades and considers this role as the most privileged one for herself.

If these rumours are true, then the casting of the main characters of the remake of Bollywood’s most popular film is complete.

Mega superstar Amitabh Bachchan will play the role of Gabbar Singh – played by late Amjad Khan in the original, Ajay Devgan will be Veeru – played by Dharmendra , Mohit Ahlawat will be Jai – played by Bachchan, Katrina Kaif will be Radha – played by Jaya Bachchan and Malayalam superstar Mohanlal will be Thakur – played by the late Sanjeev Kumar.
