Zeeshan, Gurmail, Thakkar nominated for DC Award

New Delhi, Aug 12 (IANS): Davis Cup coach Zeeshan Ali, Olmypic hockey gold medallist Gurmail Singh and 1951 Asian Games diving champion K.P Thakkar were Monday nominated for the Dhyan Chand Award, India's highest sporting award for life time achievement.

Zeeshan, a former tennis player, was appointed as India's Davis Cup coach last year. He is a five-time national champion and his last Davis Cup tie as a player was against the US in 1994.

"I don't have words to explain my feeling. I am honoured to be selected for this award," Zeeshan told IANS.

Zeeshan returned to India from Dubai last year and opened his own academy in Bangalore. He is also a member of All India Tennis Association (AITA) selection committee.

Gurmail was part of the 1980 Moscow Games gold winning hockey side. He is also married to former women's captain Rajbir Kaur.

Thakkar won the gold medals in 1951 Asian Games in men's 3m springboard and 10m platform.
